Meeting The Client Brief (U3: P5, M4, D1)

Image
Learning Outcome (U3):  be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief I made sure to export both sample pages as JPEG images so that it met with the client requirements.  Magnetic Lasso To cut out the main images of my magazine, I used the magnetic lasso tool, which let me cut around the images that I wanted to use. An example of me using this is on my double page spread, I cut out the picture of my model to put in front of my background. This is the original image that I took during my photoshoot that I decided to use for my double page spread. I used the magnetic lasso to cut around this image and put it onto of my double page spread background. This is relevant to the client brief because the photo is of a North London hip hop artist. The photo was also taken in North London by me which makes it original content. I also used this tool so that I could create a background which had more relevance to...

Post Production Techniques and Process (U3: P5)

Image
Learning Outcome (U3): be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief Front Cover My front cover is suitable for my target audience because of a few different reasons. The first of which is the colour pallet that I chose has connotations of urban street art, something commonly associated with hip hop especially in North London. Another reason is the photo of the model that I used on the front cover. The photo I took was from a worm's eye which made the subject look more menacing and powerful which is an image that hip hop artists want to portray. I also included cover lines with interesting articles to entice my target audience into buying my magazine. Strengths  One strength of my magazine is the bright colours which make it clearly visible and stand out from other magazines on a shelf. This is important because on a shelf there are lots of magazines so it is important to stand out in order for my magazine to ...

Create Production Materials (U3: P4, M3)

Image
Learning Objective (U3): Be able to create production materials for an original media product to a client brief Below are all my production materials: body copy, thumbnails, chosen images, codes and conventions, setting up evidence and setting up templates. Double Page Spread Content In my double page spread, I did an interview with a North London based Hip Hop artist. This is because Hip Hop is a vibrant music scene in North London. The reason I chose to interview a North London Hip Hop artists is to try and give him exposure to bring the vibrant music scene to the light. What's good S Dot, how are you doing today? Good g, thanks for asking. Feeling positive. What was the first thing you thought of this morning? That I have to finish a beat I have been working on for the past few days. I like to set myself tasks when I wake up to stay on track. Also, I think about breakfast, but I think most people do. What have you been listening to recently? I mainly liste...

Plan and develop pre-production materials (U3: P3, M2)

Image
L:O (U3): Be able to plan and develop pre-production materials for an original media product to a client brief Fonts Masthead The reason that I have chosen this font (DonGraffiti) for my masthead is that graffiti reflects the urban background of Hip Hop. Its thick so can be seen well on a magazine stand and also is obvious that it is graffiti so will be eye-catching to someone interested in urban culture surrounding street art and music. This is the font that I have chosen for the  coverlines  of my magazine. The reason I have chosen this font (Whoa!) is because it is easy to read while still looking like graffiti. Another reason that I chose this font is because it looks like it was written with a marker which gives the magazine a raw feel. This is the font that I have chosen for my double page spread. The reason I have chosen this font is that it is a serif font making it easy to read. From my research, I have discovered that a legible font is really important ...

Responding to feedback (D1)

Learning Objective: Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions I received six pieces of feedback from my final pitch. In the report below, I have discussed what wasn't useful and what will help me to develop my production. Worries that having only 600 physical copies will make it an online magazine Upon hearing this opinion, I was in agreement, as my plans were to have one retailer in each North London area which would result in them being so rare that the chance of getting any exposure would be greatly reduced. On reflection, I would be willing to increase the number of physical copies to 1500 so that the magazine would be more accessible to people all over North London, and each corner shop stocking the magazine would have more units. This piece of feedback was useful and therefore, I will be using it to help develop my production. Criticism towards the magazine being sold in corner shops The reason I wanted to sell my magazine in the cor...

Pitch Your Ideas (U21: P4, M3)

Image
Learning Objective: Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions This is my final pitch that I presented to a client :   - Worries that having only 600 physical copies will make it an online magazine From this piece of feedback, I understand that I need to expand the number of physical copies so that I cover both mediums. It is important to ensure that there are enough print copies as this is what the client has specified, as well as keeping an online presence. - Criticism towards the magazine being sold in corner shops I understand that selling my physical magazine exclusively in corner shops may be considered slightly strange, but I feel this gives the magazine a USP and will integrate well into peoples lives considering all people use corner shops in North London. - Criticism towards the font for "Magazine" I understand that my critic was not best pleased with my choice of font for the word "magazine" so I have de...

Planning and Preparing a Pitch (U21: P3, M2)

Image
Learning Outcome 1 -  Be able to create a proposal and pitch for an original media product based on a given brief Original Video for pitch Original Powerpoint for pitch Updated amendments based on feedback This is how my powerpoint looked initially before I edited it based on the feedback I was given at my practice pitch. After reflecting on comments made by my critics saying that my powerpoint was "boring" I decided to change the theme of the powerpoint to make it more interesting to look at. I decided to go for a black and bright blue theme. I feel the black reflects the North London Hip Hop scene being in the dark and I feel the bright blue is reminiscent of the vibrant music scene that we have in North London. Initially, I hadn't included a slide on my original powerpoint addressing the fonts I was planning on using. In this slide, I'm showing the font that I used for the logo/front cover of my magazine. I also included reaso...
